Raised in a small town in Iowa, attending public schools, Andy developed a diverse view of the world. The son of a painter and a factory worker, he experienced first-hand the ups and downs that a middle-class working family can go through. He remembers the impact on the community when the manufacturing plants started to close, similar to when General Motors closed in Doraville. From a young age, he learned the value of being involved in his community, education, and financial responsibility.
Career and Civic Engagement
He has been a business owner and is now a Telecommunications and Information Technology professional and consultant. He is passionate about public work. He works with TRIO/Upward Bound that provides mentoring and support to students of low income where both parents did not go to college.
From 2018 – 2020, Andy served Doraville as its Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission. On November 5, 2019, Andy was elected to a four-year term on the City Council in a contested three-way race. He was selected by his peers to be a Director on the Doraville Development Authority. The Authority is the cities official economic development financing agency with nearly 1.5 billion dollars in open projects.
A Love for Education
After graduating from Eddyville-Blakesburg High school, he was the first person in his family to go to college. Andy attended Indian Hills Community College majoring in Business and Information Systems. He then went on to attend William Penn University, which is a small liberal arts college founded by the Quakers.
Together, we will make the heart of Doraville beat more vibrantly, for everyone, for many years to come.
